Okay, I am about to be a college student. I realize you have to pass the series exam to get a license to be a broker. As i will be in college i do not have time to do the internship needed there. Can I form and investment club and invest on behalf of my friends? and if so am I allowed to take profits if i make them? Thanks

How much to invest for college for 2 kids? More…?

06 Feb

We are planning on investing a certain amount towards our 2 babies college education. How much does a college degree cost after 4 years in a good private college? We want to start early to give our kids a good chance at attending their desired school if they decide to do so. Any investment advice would be appreciated (amount to invest so that there is sufficient amount at 17/18 years). Thanks. I have a 9 month old girl and newborn boy on the way.

Can a couple invest money in a 529 Plan long before a child is born? Any other options?

01 Jan

While I am 31, not married, and without kids, I wonder if a person can start investing money in this plan prior to having a child. A little unsure. As my boyfriend and I are making serious moves towards marriage and having children, I have began to wonder what financial moves can we take early on (once we’re married, of course).

What is the best way to invest baby’s money for college?

22 Nov

My wife and I have a 6 month old son, and we currently have $150 to invest. We would like to start some sort of investment plan that would allow the most yield and would also allow us to add money as time goes on (say $50 a month or so). We would also like the possibility of using it for expense other than college tuition should he receive a scholarship and end up not needing the full amount for tuition or room & board. Also, minimal tax penalty would be nice. Any thoughts?

How to invest $50,000, and how much can I make?

01 Nov

I have a question for you investment geniuses out there. I’m fairly decent at investments, etc, but I’m curious what others think.

I have $50,000 to invest. What’s the best way to invest this much money for someone who is somewhere between conservative and agressive when it comes to risk, and if this much is invested today, what could the investment be worth in 10 years?

My thought is to open a Roth IRA, dump in the max for a married couple, open a Coverdell or 529 for the kids college fund (10 years until the oldest will need it, about 15 years for the youngest), then maybe put a nice cushion in savings/checking, dump the remainder in a money market fund until I can put it into the Roth the following year.

Thoughts?
Evil cookie, I like your idea, but I’m really hoping for decent capital gains, not current income…maybe some bonds, sure, but maybe some decent Mutual Funds that can keep ahead of inflation. I’m not sure.

How do you invest in your childrens’ future for college education?

21 Oct

I want to invest for my 2 year old daughters future, any ideas?
I am currently receiving $158 a month for 3 years from a home I sold and partially financed. The total will be about $6,000 in 3 years and then I will invest what I can afford after that.
I opened a regular savings account for her, But with the current cost of college, and to think of the price probably doubling in 15 or 16 years, I need a plan that will yield the most money.
Is a no load mutual fund better then a 529 plan ? (Texas)
or should I open an IRA in her name?
What is the minimum age for an IRA?
